Prayer Ministry

As you may be aware, earlier this year a Prayer Ministry Team was formed so that there would regularly be people available to pray with anyone in need at the end of each of our services.

Praying together in this way should be a common sight for us as Christians, as Paul writes many times asking for people to pray for him and he urges us to pray together to comfort and encourage each other, and yet we can find this to be quite daunting.

·         What if I get nervous or upset?

·          How do I ask for prayer?

·         Surely I shouldn’t be taking up time with my little, unimportant issues?

·         What about confidentiality?

·         Will those who pray with me judge me?

Most of us won’t be used to asking for help and so any or all of the above questions could be in your mind but please be reassured that your concerns are valid, so why not just have a chat with one or two of the team first and discuss any concerns.

What situation qualifies me to go forward and pray with members of the Prayer Ministry Team?  The answer is anything that you are concerned about.  For instance:

·         Family matters

·         Job situations

·         Health issues – yours or others

·         Moving house

·         Relationships

·         Times of bereavement

·         Thanksgiving for answered prayer

Jesus said:  ‘ . . truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for,  it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.  For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.’ (Matthew 18 v 19-20)  Now isn’t that reassuring!!??

This is exactly why the people on the Prayer Ministry Team are delighted to be available to anyone who wants to speak to our Heavenly Father – to listen to your heart and to stand with you in agreement before Father - to bring to God all issues, large and small, as well as rejoicing with you and giving thanks to God about answered prayer, good health, loved ones and other exciting things in your life.

So you see prayer (speaking to our Father in Heaven) doesn’t always have to be a rescue call but it is ok to cry and it is right to pour out your heart if you are hurting. Either way, the people of the Prayer Ministry Team are not there to judge you or your situation.  They are prepared to join with you, in confidence, to support you and love you as a brother and sister in Christ.  So if you see people huddling together at the front after the services - feel free to do likewise.
